Dr. Zachary Robbins - Author of The Teachers Black Students Need
A Marysville, Washington resident, Dr. Zachary “Zac” Robbins has a career in education spanning 29 years, with his most recent post being Superintendent of Marysville School District 25. In addition to his role in education administration, Dr. Zachary Robbins has written education-related books, including The Teachers Black Students Need.
Zachary Robbins has demonstrated his ability to improve the educational experience for students under his charge as superintendent. He implemented an alternative to in-school suspension, reducing behavioral referrals and out-of-school suspensions by 15 percent. As a superintendent, he has created competency-based learning as part of career-based learning for students. Additionally, he increased student participation in advanced placement courses. Under his purview, students improved their state assessment scores in reading, math, and science, increasing achievement from 81 percent to 83.2 percent.
His nearly three decades in education has culminated in writing The Teachers Black Students Need, a guide that helps students thrive in school. He also wrote Becoming a Social Justice Educator and developed the Restorative Justice Tribunal model. The Teachers Black Students Need and Becoming a Social Justice Educator have been used in professional development programs nationwide. He has also written articles featured in Edutopia and other education publications.
Dr. Zac Robbins is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of Secondary Principals. He also regularly attends conferences hosted by the National Equity Project and takes part in leadership institutes that focus restorative practices.
